We happened to be in Kyoto during the Gion Festival which celebrates the beginning of summer. The people of Kyoto build giant floats (6-7 stories tall)...

Nijo Castle, built in 1603, was the official Kyoto residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun Iemitsu.
